Day 7 - Love Believes the BEST!

First, the fun stuff. Cameron has been infatuated with gloves lately. Last night, he fell asleep wearing my leather gloves. Too Cute!

[Love] believes all things, hopes all things. ~1 Corinthians 13:7

When you think about the good attributes of your spouse (intelligent, caring, fun, great ability to fix/build things, sexy, etc.), your appreciation for them begins to increase. The more time you spend meditating on the positive attributes the more grateful you are for your mate.

We think on these things when we're first together but then...we begin thinking about the things that bother and irritate us. The weaknesses and failures of our spouse; bad habits, hurtful words, poor decisions.

Spending time thinking on these things kills marriages. It makes your heart devalue your spouse.

These things may be true, but so are the good attributes. Everyone fails and has areas that need growth; we all have unresolved issues, hurts and personal baggage. This is a sad aspect of being human. We have all sinned. But we have this unfortunate tendency to downplay our own negative attributes while putting our partners failures under a magnifying glass.

Love knows about the bad attributes.

But love chooses not to think on them.

You must decide to quit dwelling on these things after every frustrating event in your relationship.

Love chooses to believe the best about people. It gives them the benefit of the doubt. Refuse to fill in the unknown with negative assumptions.

You must develop the habit of reining in your negative thoughts and focusing on the positive attributes of your mate. Its a decision to make whether they deserve it or not.

TODAY'S DARE

FOR TODAY'S DARE, GET TWO SHEETS OF PAPER. ON THE FIRST ONE, SPEND A FEW MINUTES WRITING OUT POSITIVE THINGS ABOUT YOUR SPOUSE. THEN DO THE SAME WITH NEGATIVE THINGS ON THE SECOND SHEET. PLACE BOTH SHEETS IN A SECRET PLACE FOR ANOTHER DAY. THERE IS A DIFFERENT PURPOSE AND PLAN FOR EACH. AT SOME POINT DURING THE REMAINDER OF THE DAY, PICK A POSITIVE ATTRIBUTE FROM THE FIRST LIST AND THANK YOUR SPOUSE FOR HAVING THIS CHARACTERISTIC.

Amen sister!!!

I didn't see the negative when we were dating. Why dwell on them now??? Not to mention if we focus on the positive what a great attitude we, ourselves, will have.

I like this one and I think it will bring things back into perspective for me.

Thanks for taking the time to post these. You are a gem.
